Product Details

If you're new to indoor plants and want something easy to care for, consider starting with pothos. These trailing plants are common, low-maintenance, and can handle low light. Golden pothos is the most common type, but there are other varieties like Hawaiian pothos.

Finding Hawaiian pothos may take some searching, but it's worth it if you love pothos. It has glossy heart-shaped leaves with lighter yellow spots compared to golden pothos. Even in bright light, it doesn't turn as yellow as the golden variety.

You can place Hawaiian pothos on a shelf to let its leaves drape down or train it to climb up a trellis. In areas where pothos can grow outdoors all year, be careful as it can spread quickly if planted on the ground. Pothos is great for cleaning indoor air, but keep it away from pets as it's toxic to them.

Hawaiian Pothos Care:

  • One great thing about the Hawaiian Pothos is its adaptability to different light levels. It's often chosen as a bathroom plant because it can handle low-light areas well. However, for the healthiest growth and most vibrant variegation, place your plant where it gets bright, indirect sunlight. Too little light can cause your plant to revert to a less attractive solid green, while direct sun can bleach the leaves.
  • Although the Hawaiian Pothos doesn't thrive in prolonged direct sunlight, it does need slightly brighter conditions compared to the golden Pothos to showcase its best variegation.
  • Hawaiian Pothos isn't picky about the type of potting soil you use, as long as it drains well. It doesn't like sitting in waterlogged soil. If you only have dense potting soil, consider mixing in some perlite, peat moss, or eco-friendly coco coir to enhance drainage. Even if you only have a dry, rocky mix, your pothos should still be content.
  • Overwatering is the primary threat to Hawaiian Pothos. While these plants can tolerate some neglect, excess water can cause root rot. Ensure the soil dries out completely before watering again. Instead of relying on sight alone, insert your finger into the soil or use a moisture meter to check. Drooping leaves often indicate thirst in your plant. If you wait too long, the glossy leaves may begin to dry and develop brown edges.
